Multiple Pin-in
September 11, 2007
On Tuesday September 11, 2007 Harrisburg FD was called for an MVA Pin-in
with multiple patients. Harrisburg Engine 1 and HB10 arrived to find a
four car MVA with two persons pinned in two separate vehicles.
Harrisburg Engine 1 began extrication operations while HB10 established
command. Harrisburg Rescue 1 and Engine 2 were assigned extrication
operations on the other vehicle. Concord Engine 5 was requested and was
assigned fire suppression and instructed to lay a foam blanket due to a
large amount of flammable fluids from the crash. Due to the location of
the accident, agencies from Mecklenburg County (Newell, Mallard Creek
VFD and Medic) were also dispatched. Mallard Creek was established a
landing zone while Newell personnel assisted with extrication. Patient 1
was freed within 10 minutes and patient 2 was freed shortly after. Due
to the extensive damage one of the vehicles suffered, it took
approximately 50 minutes to free patient 3.
