Harrisburg Fire Department responded to several possible house fires
from lightning strikes. Harrisburg Engines 1 & 2, as well as the other
assisting departments, were committed on numerous assignments.
Harrisburg Ladder 1 responded to a residence struck by lightning. Ladder
1 arrived with nothing showing and began investigating while Chief
Dunn established command. While Ladder 1’s crew investigated the
residence, a bystander advised Captain Gill that the residence next door
was also struck and that there was fire coming from the attic. Upon
investigation it was confirmed that there was a small fire in the attic.
Command was notified, and an all clear and control time was obtained
from the original incident.Command was transferred
to Chief Montague as Ladder 1 was repositioned and its crew along with
Chief Dunn began fire attack and a primary search. Harrisburg Engine 1
was en-route, but was reassigned to another residential lighting strike
because other assisting companies were unable to respond immediately due
to being committed to similar incidents in their areas.
Harrisburg Rescue 1 arrived but was reassigned to a
MVA Pin-in involving a tractor trailer with fuel spill. The fire was
quickly extinguished and control time obtained. Concord Engine 5 arrived
and assisted with salvage. Damage to the structure was kept
minimal. There were no injuries and the house was unoccupied at the time
of the incident. |
